Interview with Laura Butcher by Lois Cooper

The Businesswoman of the Year Award is given to the woman who has been truly exceptional in their career or business. It is an award that signifies their momentous achievements and is an award to be very proud of.

Last year’s winner was Laura Butcher who balances her time as a yoga teacher, studio owner, teacher trainer and a wellness speaker. Laura is passionate about health and wellness and in helping as many people as possible live a stress-free, happy and so, healthy life.

Catching up with Laura one year on, she spoke on her surprise at winning the award convinced that she had “missed out entirely.” For Laura, the award was recognition for how many years of hard work it took setting up her business. It was a lovely way to know her work had been seen and appreciated and it boosted her confidence and morale for the next year.

In the past year, Laura said that winning the award had offered her a lot, especially when working with corporate clients, as it gave her business proposals more credibility. In the independent business world, the more backing you can get the better and the badge of honour that winning the Businesswoman of the Year definitely helped.

For the nominees this year, Laura’s advice is to just make the most of the opportunity. Even if you do not win, your hard work and success in being recognised for the category “is an honour.”

For the future, the words of wisdom from Laura is that- especially this past year- “one of the biggest lessons is to make sure what you are doing is for you.” If you are constantly working towards someone else’s goals and trying to keep others happy, then you will not be happy and it will not work out as you will have no motivation to see it through. Therefore, it is important that you are working for yourself and that “staying true to yourself is key.”
